It's raining in Wales, that means bank holiday paddling will be the Upper Wye, or the Tryweryn if it doesn't rain enough.

D'you want some of our rain JJF? ;-)
I pussied out of the club's sea paddle today because it would have meant getting up even earlier than I do for work. Even though I think the sea would be perfectly friendly today, it's raining hard enough now that we'd probably be wet from both ends !

We were practising self rescues in the sea boats on Thursday, and I had catastrophic drysuit failure, i.e. I left the relief zip undone. How they all laughed!
Scientific observation that a fully swamped drysuit achieves neutral bouyancy :-) I'd often wondered if you'd just go straight to the bottom, but swimming was fine. Walking back to the boat shed was a different matter...

Tee he
Left the (back) zip open several times only to realise when a hundred yards out and got a sea breeze!
Never (yet) had to learn the hard way.

Did sea survival with RNLI recently though and you get same effect after full immersion in lifeboat yellows (albeit in a swimming pool)

Bought a new guide book whilst kicking my heels in Nevisport yesterday (as you do).

canoescotland.org

Got some great touring trips in it. Looking forward to getting out with the family and giving some of them a go over the summer.

Paddles Up! :-)

AC sounds interesting. Bit of a trek for a paddle for me :( I do like an armchair paddle so will look closer ;)
Environment agency suggested that the Thames was not suitable today so we went to Bray Lake: braylake.com
Yep 'cosy and flat' yep and laps. Easy in and coffee available on site. £10 each with our own gear. Yes we were a bit desperate!

Went to the Wye with our Junior group yesterday. It was some of their first visit to a proper river with moving water (Symonds Yat Rapid at the end).

We had a lovely day out. We finished with swimming down the rapid. As the level was a little high I stood on a slightly submerged rock at the end of a groin with a throwline to retrieve those who wanted it. The pressure on the line was very high and the rescue position wasn't ideal. One young swimmer released the line early and I went over backwards into the river, much to the delight of the whole group!
