Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

That would be interesting YP. For future reference for me for interviews.

I had a agency interview today for a role and almost forgot it in all of the excitement of being solvent for 3 months. The money was piss poor tho' and not enough to pay all my bills.

RS, you could well have started a process that will make working there much easier for future employees - hope your line manager's behaviour will be dealt with.

What do people think about asking the interviewers tough questions at the end of an interview? Basically, my reading of the situation is that both the success and future opportunities of the role I'll be interviewing for tomorrow depends on something they should have done half a year ago. I can't find any evidence for them having done it online. I will def need to ask what their vision is for the future of this role, but am wondering how specific to be about me knowing about this requirement. I'd be tempted to ask in a genuinely interested way if they could tell me their reasoning behind not doing said thing as there might well be a good reason I'm not aware of and which would mean that they're planning on keeping up this branch of work the role is in. I don't want to seem as if I was challenging/criticising the organisation - but I don't want a role in which my task is to wind up the branch of work I'm employed for (and thereby buarantee that the role won't continue after summer) either.

Sorry, that was so vague that it might not make much sense to anyone else. What I'm talking about is a permit for the organisation to be allowed to do the aspect of work the role is in (a minor aspect for them, nothing to do with their core business). That permit is granted for the organisation, not the jobholder. It was due for renewal, but they don't seem to have applied for it from what I can see online (which, of course, might well be wrong).

Tricky one SA... Think I would ask if they have a reason for not doing A... as you suggest...

SA, I would say go for it, at my recent interview I asked the panel (all Directors of the firm) if they really knew what they wanted from the new role that they were creating as I needed to know how the person who was successful was going to be measured. I told them that if they were not sure about the role and how success would be measured then it would be difficult for a person to start a job with such a vague scope and objectives.

My thinking is that if they want an intelligent person to fill the role then they should expect intelligent and possibly challenging questions.

Exactly Wollffy... I was in the running for a decent job a few years ago, quite a few years ago. However, they didn't want to reveal their last 5 years of results or projections, yet they wanted me to give them an idea how I was going to drag them out of the gutter... So I told them that unless they'd be more transparent, all I could do was speculate... They chose someone else, as I refused to progress without more insight, and went bust a year or so later...

Thanks for the re-assurance, Hanneke and Woffy! I'll see what they say first as they might well talk about it out of their own volition - and if not, I'll ask that question in a well-packaged way. Cheers! :-)

Yup, go for it. Strangely when I asked "how would my performance be measured" yesterday he said "good question" then paused slightly as though I was the first person who'd actually asked that.
