I take on fluid during rows that have rest intervals but only in sips, more to counter dry mouth than anything else. I do sweat profusely and can often wring out my shirt after, esp as the weather warms up. But I feel fine, although after a hard run I need to take on rehydration salts otherwise I feel washed out for the rest of the day. I don't think it's a problem, more curious about how it compares to others. |

You've made me curious now, but as I'm not rowing at the mo (see blog) I'll have to wait until I get back to it to check how I'm doing.

Re weight loss during long rows. I’ve a 19km slow row ( completing EXRs virtual courses ) tomorrow afternoon. I’m suspecting a 1kilo loss or thereabouts |

The back is responding well to the work the physio has given me previously and I've still been able to do swimming and biking so general cardio fitness shouldn't have taken a dip, Jef. It's the specific rowing fitness that's taken a bashing though, obviously, and it's struck just as I'm supposed to be layering on the threshold work so it's a bit of a bad time for it. Then again when would be a good time? Maybe 7th December? |

Congratulations on completing the April Fools challenge Sallykate, I did it during the 2020 lockdown - it's a tough challenge towards the end!! Interesting Muttley, I've just weighed myself before/after a steady 10k, 12st 2.25lb before and 12st 0.5lb after so less than a 2lb loss, I did have the fan on me though which might make a difference. I'm currently heavyweight following a recent all inclusive holiday 🤣 Good to see you back on the erg Jef, and I hope you make a speedy recovery Nellers 🤞 |

Ah yes, the all-inclusive holiday. After one of them lasting two weeks some years back I was unable to get into my trousers for the return flight and once home had to go shopping for the next waist size up I weighed myself before and after a longish (8 miles) but easy run on Thursday: 12st 4lb before and 11st 13.4lb after, pretty much as previously. This morning was a short sharp sesh on the rower of 6 x 500 metres: 12st 4lb both before and after. So I don't know what's going on |

Half marathon row. Steady at 1:38:38 Lost just over a kilo. I can see most of it on the floor as a puddle under the erg. |

This morning was 60 minutes at 24 spm and 2k+18-20 as per Mr RowAlong, which went easy enough, in fact it felt easier than holding that pace at 20 spm despite the higher total number of strokes. I did this one by pace and spm not hr, and ended up with the first half of the row in UT2 and the second half in UT1. Not too sweaty, 1.5 lb lighter after than before. Question for the panel: any thoughts about the comparative pluses and minuses of doing UT-type rows at the same pace but at a slightly higher spm? |

I don't know whether it's a plus or a minus but I do know that when I tried to do UT2 paces at r18 I got higher HR than when I relaxed a bit and upped the rate to r20. Obviously I wasn't putting as much power into each stroke but I was doing more of 'em and producing roughly the same watts/pace so you'd think it would have been the same overall effort but my heart would tell you otherwise. In other news: 10 minutes @ r20 this evening and no back pain! Yet. I'll see how I feel tomorrow and go again on Wednesday if all remains stable. |
