The Concept2 does look a bit industrial so if you live in a trendy loft apartment it'll fit the style. Otherwise, it comes apart and can be stowed in a cupboard or under the stairs. Cf the Waterrower, which is said to be good and is more consumer-oriented in its design.
But the Concept2 is the top machine. It's built to be thrashed day in day out in rowing clubs, gyms, on military camps, oil rigs etc. It's bombproof and can be augmented with some software apps like Ergdata or RowPro. Tbh given the silly second-hand prices I'd buy new, but there's a waiting list due to the pandemic. It's only pricey if you don't use it properly.
I've had mine since 2007 and it works as good as new.

Don’t live in trendy apartment but I’m fortunate to have a room that’s set up as a gym so no one needs to see it unless they want to. I registered on the Concept 2 waiting list this morning. Expected February delivery.

One of my friends was a keen rower as a student (lots of blades and trophies around his house). He has a water rower rather than a C2, but I think it sprang a leak and he hasn't mended it.

One thing about the C2 - it is cheaper now in absolute and therefore also relative terms than way back when. If memory serves I paid about £900 for mine, plus a bit more for extras like the mat. And that was over 13 years ago.

And while I'm here -- some very nice metres and paces being recorded there, chaps. I'm just chugging along, did the Pete Plan 3k-2.5k-2k sesh this morning. A nice mid-range effort workout. And only a couple of k metres short of the 100k challenge. Need to choose a charity I suppose.

Did you pick a charity. C2 had reached the 45k max, but have just raised it to 70k,

I'll probably pick Doctors Without Borders. It's the only one I recognise.
Nice half marathons by Rich and Sinj in the past couple of days ...
Currently pondering what to do today. Should be a running day but it's pissing down outside ... decisions.
