All good metres though Nellers! It's difficult coming back after a couple of weeks off, mentally as much as physically I think.
I did 5k yesterday and today I did a little duathlon - 2k row.. 4 mile run.. 5k row, I really enjoyed it and for once I had no knee pain whilst running, maybe a warm up row is the way forward 🤔
Pain free running is good, however you got there Craggy. Well done mate.
Yep, I think it feels a bit "rough" at the mo. Timing and rhythm are coming back but it doesn't feel as natural and smooth as it should. Better today than yesterday, though, and it's only going to come with doing more rowing.
Thanks mate! I'm the same, yesterday was only my second row in 12 days and I have to say it felt a little heavy, I had to lower the DF after 500m. Keep at it, you'll be back to your old self in a couple of weeks.
Morning. Thumbs up to Craggy for the knee improvement. No knee pain is good. I used to have regular knee issues, which have faded since I added rowing. Might be unconnected, but I do reckon that the rower is great for flushing the blood through the legs without overworking them, as running can do.
A glorious day here in sunny subtropical Cornwall. Patio doors wide open and 2 x 30 mins with a short break, targeting UT2 and 20 spm. Only annoyance was that tree that is still shedding its fluffy pollen, and the way the air from the rower was bouncing it all over the room. But otherwise, felt great and about 13,000 metres covered.
Nice one Muttley. I managed a short run/walk today before getting another 10k done on the rower. Felt much smoother and controlled. Managed ave r18 and nice smooth power curves.
Thanks Muttley, yes I think you're right and I think my flexibility has improved a bit since I started rowing. Well done on yesterday's row, good metres on a hot day!
Back up to 10k Nellers, well done!
Another row, run, row tonight - 2k, 4m, 3k. Very hot!!
I tried combining rowing and running in a single workout a couple of times. Didn't work for me. I don't know whose legs I had acquired when I attempted to run after erging, but they weren't mine. So I'm sticking to alternate days!
MM -- have you assembled your new toy yet? Howzit going?
3 x 15 mins, of which each rep was 6 minutes @ 24 spm then the remaining 9 @ 20. A pleasant mid-range session. The second and third reps were 3 and 6 metres down on the first, but that's about half of one pull so an acceptable rate of attrition, I'd say.
Yeah, Muttley, that's near as damn it even splits mate. Well done.
I've done both my 10kms this week after my "run". The difference is that while I'm trying to come back to running the run is 5 min walk/5 minute run/5 min walk so not exactly taxing yet. At that level it feels like a good warm up for the erg. We'll see if that continues when/if the run portion builds up a bit more.
The rowing is feeling a bit smoother again for me though so I'm thinking I'll try for something a bit longer than 10km at the weekend and see how that goes, then maybe add in some tempo intervals next week if all goes well.
Yea all assembled and just using it a little bit each evening. We are "on holiday" this week (but not in north Devon as we should be) so normal routine gone out of the window. Am.a bit miffed that hubby is better than me (but them his is more muscular than I am in the arms)
One quick questions - is there an rule for increasing distance/time in rowing like there is in running?also when do you start increasing the resistance?
Rules are tricky. I'd say build slowly and work on technique and form. If hubby is doing well because he's got strong arms he's doing it wrong and you'll get him when you get your technique right. The seat slides so you can use your legs for power and length.
