At the moment, for me losing a stone of lard will mean being more comfortable running at a moderate speed - less bouncing and wobbling, less chaffing, less stress on the joints. Free less-slow is a big bonus too though |

On the chafing front, I bought these shorts a few months back: amazon.co.uk . What a revelation. Have thrown the rest of mine away now. Can't forget all the torture I've lived through with my old shorts.

When I raced (bikes) I used to be a lot lighter than I am now. For me to get there we'd be looking at 2 stone, but now that I am older and wiser and unable to race, it isn't a good idea... It did make a huge difference to my performance though, especially on the track... But also endurance racing. A few hundred grammes less makes a lot of difference over 12 hours for example...

I could really do with losing 2-stone, but a stone would make a big enough difference and should be doable without eating so little as to compromise my ability to run the distances I want to run. Bloody hell, it's a difficult balance though |

Rosehip: I think that unicorn thread was a bit, erm, progressive for me

I'm running loads more than last year, but rather than the 1/4 of a stone I wanted to shift then, it's 3/4 now. No cycle commute, easier access to biscuits and the time taken walking the dog everyone else wanted have all contributed. Also almost all my runs are with my son since parkrun finished and my pace has dropped too. Need to cut down on the biscuits and add cross training, but once I have one biscuit that's it. |

Rosehip, it sure is! I don't want to have to be hungry all the time and nerd to be energised to do my work. I have gone from a desk job to a very physical job outdoors, so I need enough calories to perform. I used to ride a lot but now I tend to be too tired to go out at all. Pre covid it was much better, as I was actually allowed to go on proper rides, often over two days with a wild camp. But since last May and the closure of the Brecon Beacons National Park, I haven't ridden. At all! In stead I have bern comfort eating... My hope is that just cutting out treats will get me to an acceptable weight. I need to start riding again though to make that easier... But ultra endurance riding up and down the lane? Nope, not attractive,. I am hoping things get easier by the end of the month... At least as of today I can meet one other person... 🙄 Not sure I still know how to talk 😱 |

- losing my dog in November meant I suddenly missed out on 300+ cals a day burnt by brisk dog-walking - and it definitely made a difference. Biscuits are like alcohol - easier to say no to the first! |

Chocolate has bern my undoing: Moser Roth from Aldi. I used to have one portion with a cup of something, then last year it became the whole pack! Almost every evening! And bags of liquorice... I can't get liquorice any more: Brexshit, so that is at least something...
