Popping by as I have just listed a swim event on the race calendar, basically spotted that Gert Lush had a new running event and noticed they also have a swimming event this year.

Details here gertlushevents.co.uk held at Cotswold Lake 86 it is based on the backyard ultra format - a 12hr swim, one mile on the hour every hour or short course of half mile on the hour every hour. Thought I'd share.

I've done a Gert Lush event last year and in again this year and they are great, all profits support local (to them) charities.

Back in the pool again last night and managed to knock out a (slow) mile for the first time in a couple years, am finding the short pool (20m) difficult. Just finding my stroke again and it's not easy, anyone got any solid tips for breathing timing? My bilateral has gone to rats, basically I start okay and then as I tire it all goes wrong to my left. I end breathing every 4th and that's not optimal for me.

Maybe you could slow your stroke down so you can breathe every 4 strokes and then do a couple of lengths just breathing on your problem side?

I would suggest slowing down too. You could do a length of left and then a length of right (every 2) and then consolidate on the third length with bilateral on every third stroke … and continue until it becomes second nature.

Thanks for the advice guys. Just to be clear, I've been able to breathe bilaterally for many years and still can really, what's going wrong is the timing of it on my left side as I get tired, I'm thinking a bit of catch-up drill is what I need. Thoughts anyone?

p.s. I'm also wondering if I'm not exhaling fully and that's the issue

No I did realise you can breathe bilaterally, but sometimes going back to basics can kick you back into focus.

I’ve no idea how to sort out that left side when you tire though. Swim Smooth is a good resource - you may know of it already.
