Marvelous Mrs Maisel also features a lot of smoking.
Doesn't detract from it's brilliance in any way, as far as I'm concerned. Still absolutely one of the best shows ever made.

I was wondering about this the other day, in as much as, I had thought at the time that any new shows that featured smoking must need the actor to smoke and there are some actors (the fella that plays Strike for example) who don't 'look' like they smoke normally. And then I was thinking about their health and whether, now, it is possible to use CGI, a clever prop or such to generate the impression that someone is smoking. Presumably it is cost prohibitive, but if you can give someone a lightsaber and make it look realistic to some degree, smoking ought to be easy enough!

It is possible to buy herbal 'prop' cigarettes which contain no tobacco.

Raemondo, agreed about Marvelous Mrs Maisel.
This is probably for a different thread, but I have a slight issue with alcohol depicted in film and TV. It’s everywhere - soaps based around pubs, drink used to celebrate, drink used to commiserate, drink used for a character to relax, drink used to party. The show Suits was notorious for it, drinking in the office after work etc. Probably it is just a reflection of real life though, but when I was trying to give up the booze 6 years ago, it was one of the many things that struck me about just how prevalent alcohol is. When I used to drink I can’t say I particularly noticed it, and it was only when I stopped that I really noticed it.

True but they are like smoking a bonfire. Back in the day my experience was non-smoking actors who were required to smoke preferred real cigarettes. Sounds bizarre saying that now. These days you wouldn’t be asked to smoke if you don’t irl.

I agree about alcohol, and the normalisation.
