We saw Poor Things last night. Wow. That's going to take some time to process.
It was good fun. Utterly bonkers. But very watchable. I'm just not sure what (if anything) it was trying to say.
(I was quite surprised when the 18 rating came up at the start. I don't see many of those in my sheltered little world. Could definitely understand why it was an 18 by the end though.)
Definitely stylish. Some lovely sets. Slightly odd cinematography - lots of fish eye lens shots that went a little over my head.
I'm not sure it's properly disturbing though - I think it's unreal enough to put it firmly into the fantasy/absurdist category.
There is a lot of sex though. And a fair amount of nudity. (Which [I think] is what was captioned on the 18 cert; though as Grep says, there is also an odd scene with sex in the presence of minors.)
Presumably if it's trying to say anything, it's a twist on the traditional coming of age story with a bit of sexual awakening and female sexual liberation thrown in. Not sure I'd agree that it achieves that though. Time to wander off and find some reviews to see if they can decode it for me.
Barbie on Prime last night. Wife and I both enjoyed it. Hard watch for men! Very on point with criticism and satire of the patriarchy. Sweet, funny and clever. 8 out of 10. G
