Godland. Managed to miss this on the rotation last year but have now rented it at home.
Fuck me this is bleak. Think 'Silence' but set in the cold and wet and filmed in 1:1.33 so your vision is trapped in the narrow landscape view of ancient photography. Utterly bonkers in its preposition that it's based on seven discovered photographs. Who cares whether that's true or not, it's just magnificent in it's unfathomableness. The soundtrack is 'Bodies, Rest & Motion' meets Danish choir, breathtaking. It's hostile, mad, dense.
I agree with Raemondo. Grave of the Fireflies is a tough watch. Having seen it 4 times (subbed and dubbed twice) I reccomend the Japanese version.
And on the subject of Ghibli, I saw The Boy and the Heron a couple of hours ago. I have mixed feelings, but erring more on the positive side. I'll blog about it later.
They played Murder OtDF at half time at Chelmsford City today. It went down a storm. Mainly because it made a pleasant change from the endless landfill indie.
