thanks PtB. aerobic/cardiac fitness is what i lack, having not really done much aerobic stuff for the first 35 years! but it IS getting better. interesting seeing my OH starting to run who has no trouble with the aerobic side (he cycles a lot) but ran 2 miles yesterday and complained of sore legs and back. My CV system lets me down long before my legs do!!

Here I am, the next in a whole line of people who have reached the
AAAAAAARGH
point. Trying to run sub 70 for most runs is driving me batty, mainly because I don't get any post-run dolphins so there's a whole negative thing going on.
That's all.

Good scream Lizzie.
I assume the frustration is at the difficulty in staying slow and easy enough for the HR to remain less than the 70%. If it's *really* not working (because you're having to go so slow that your running actions changes entirely) then I think you have to go back to more conventional effort level until your fitness/pace improves a little. You could do this by forgetting about the HRM for a while, or alternatively carry on using it but give youself another 10bpm (say) as a temporary limit. After a couple of months, you might be able to reduce it by 5bpm, and later by another 5bpm, until you do find yourself back at 70% again.
Just my advice, I'd be interested in what others think.

Managed 14.09 at 8.42s at 68% no drift. In fact a neg split although it was a following on the way home.
