Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Decathlon (own make Kalenji)do a chest mounted one with a red flashing light at the back. I mush prefer it to a headtorch as it doesn’t flatten the ground by hiding the shadows like a headtorch does, and I don’t like how a headtorch can just light up my breath when it’s cold.

StuH, Meglet - I find a baseball cap helps stop both the battery pack dragging the headtorch down and the torch lighting up my breath.

Interesting point Sam. I've been holding my bike light...though it's a pain as I hate holding onto anything, so am watching this thread eagerly. :)

Alpkit for me. We have a couple of different ones but I think Alpkit have moved on since then so probably onto a different model by now.

I think I have one of those that Meglet mentions but I've not used it in anger yet so can't comment constructively!

I've been using Tesco headtorches for years, but the latest ones don't seem to be up to scratch. They might use NASA technology, but I'm struggling to locate the dog's leavings with the current one.

I've been using a Kalenji chest light for a few years. They're great. Lots of cheaper variants on the theme are now available on Amazon.

The 10 quid eBay jobs hold up well in comparison to the range of far more expensive boutique offerings on parade at our evening club sessions. V bright, have lasted for years, though I upgraded the (standard 18650) cells and charger which probably puts the total price up to the 20-30 quid range overall.

Thanks for all the recommendations! Baroness, you are a wuss for not running, but I suspect you are right and I will get what I pay for, at least up to a certain amount. Decathlon sounds like a good shout, so I’ll try there

I have a lenser, but had problems changing the batteries in the rain in the lakeland 50. To be fair that might have been my fault. Never had problems with alpkit; cheaper and less bright than the lenser, but seem bomb proof.

My wife has a dead fancy petzl, but i still use the cheap ones (admittedtly with the addition of a hand held hope bike light for technical bits, which is brighter than the sun).
