Just wanted to add another vote for Chester, which was superbly organised from start to finish with every little detail thought about and (I can say this living in Cambridge) actually pretty flat, apart from the short, sharp hill at mile 24 coming back into the city.

I really enjoyed Chester, well organised , example of which was start being on grass and being covered in dew early morning, they had plastic covers for your trainers.

I've just seen a (properly worded) email to someone who complained offering a 'substantial' discount for next year's race.

If they are making offers I'd take £2 off London instead of £20 off Manchester

The problem with that Dave is that VLM is an option (yet) for most of us, unless we strike it lucky in the ballot or commit to raising £2k+. And even then a £20 reduction for VLM entry fee would still make the total cost of the weekend about £200 more expensive than GMM for me.

I only have good things to say about Chester, and yes, the baggage pickup was amazing, Londonesque..in fact the whole post-race experience was wonderful. It was the first marathon I ran from beginning to end, as I didn't need to stop at any(!) water stations, as the volunteers passed me bottles of water seamlessly with sports caps that I could sip on whilst running..
Nevertheless, I will still be doing Manchester next year, as I deferred..

"is" should obviously read as "isn't"... I've obviously been on the same communication training course as the GMM organisers ;-)

And last time they offered a discount after a baggage fiasco in 2012 for the 2013 race, it was 10% off.
