That would still give 3-4 hours to organise bags.

We parked in an official MUFC car park and this was fine, no issues. We also left our gear in the car as i read from previous that the baggage was shambolic. There was a lot not right though: Mile markers - Don't get me started, i was pacing and it was a joke. Worst I've ever seen. Not enough toilets on the route. Start was unclear, where exactly was it? 3 chip mats, which fucking one was the start? 5 seconds between me and my Stepdad i was pacing, not possible as we started and finished together. Not the flattest route, Abingdon is flatter. False call. Finishing area was unclear, not clear exit, not enough toilets. We ended up squeezing through the barrier from the cricket club car park exit only to find no clear route across the route and an unhelpful steward. For the money to enter you need to improve, If this was my main marathon PB attempt I'd be fuming. |

Race Report (not mine) that starts with a history lesson: Imagine a city named after its breast like hills. A city where the first modern computer was built and where the atom was first split. Where the neutron was discovered and where Rolls met Royce. A city with the first public library and made rich by cotton. Where the rain falls on the richest and the poorest in the nation. The only city in the world you can get a degree in 'Mummy Studies' and the place where women found their rights. A growing and diverse city where the person trying to stab you is fluent in 5 different languages. For some it is a hell hole but for its stubbornly proud inhabitants it is home. This is Manchester, where the marathons are flat, fast and friendly and also voted the best in the UK for the last two years. reddit.com |

Nelly
I already have done (but then I'd guess nobody is surprised about that :-p), and I'm not the only one (equivalent of about 5% of finishers already).

I'm sure it will probably be fine Sushi, after the grief they are getting the one thing that you can probably guarantee for next year is that the baggage issues will be sorted. One interesting snippet from their fb page is that their excuse for the mile marker fiasco is that this job was "sub-contracted" out, presumably to save a few quid. Sheesh it can't have saved that much and surely for something so critical and yet easy to get right the organisers wouldn't leave it to chance. All adds to the impression that they were just trying to trim costs/maximise profits, which is fine for things like posting only the numbers rather than full race info but not for little things like mile markers and lack of start arch which pissed huge numbers of people off yet saved barely anything. |

Uyuni - To sub out and not at least check the positioning of the markers is for me ridiculous and shows the lack of attention to detail which marred this race. People going for times at the sharp end are likely to be manual lapping and I'm certain they wont have been impressed here. Don't know about others but i also found sections very narrow and felt the spectators were on top of you at points, not wanting to completely moan but for me there is a whole heap of things that need addressing. |

I did it last yr. had 'stomach' issues at mile 9 & 22 and was fortunate there were portaloos with no and minimal queue. Should have pulled out, didn't, convinced I could still sub 4. I missed that by less than 2 1/2 mins but did pb by 13 secs. After an hour in the Red Cross tent being rehydrated I'd have been in major trouble with a wait for my baggage. As it was 2 volunteers held a blanket up at the back of baggage tent whilst another helped me get warm dry clothes on. I'm kinda counting on them getting back to this standard for next yr. (Can't comment on mile markers. Spent most of the race with stomach cramps and discovering that it is possible to run with clenched buttocks. By the time I got to the last 4 miles I don't even know if there were any mile markers. I didn't even notice the first aid posts) |
