Another vets competition and another second place. Always the bridesmaid.

I made such a cock-up of the sixth hole with a poor slicey drive into the ditch. Picked it out for the penalty and knocked it back in again. Then there were trees and a bunker for an inglorious 10 and no points.

I ended up with 36 points with the winer getting 37.

Frustrating game at times.

Unlucky XB, sounds frustrating, next time though...

I have my quarter-final knockout on Sunday. Playing against my usual ladies partner Pam.

Prediction: I'll take 2 to get to the green and three putt, she'll take four to get to the green and one putt.

I have a love hate relationship with putting but have benefitted from reading two books by Jayne Storey. One is Breathe Golf and I forget the other title. Her approach is very Zen which chimes with my Chi Running practice from the days when I could run.

Above all, it's made me a lot calmer on the course and I can shrug off bad shots and not carry them round with me.

"Golf is not a game of perfect" is about that too.

Playing this Sunday in a regular event I play with a few friends. Three times a year we play straight up, nothing more than social semi-competition, but there is an ironically bad tartan green jacket and bragging rights up for grabs.

I don't suppose any one has played the Forest course at Woodbridge Golf Club, Suffolk?

I won on hole #22 - on the 10th I was 4 down, won 4-in-a-row (which was expected, they are long and have high stroke indexes) - back to evens by 18th—won it on the 3rd the second time around.

Into the QF. Best I've ever managed.

mattglen - no, not familiar. Looks decent, lovely heathland stuff? Hope you get it dry (on and above ground).

How did Jenny's club champs day go? And none of this concern about being too high a handicap. All welcome here.

XB - how did you miss this thread indeed? Jealous of your quantity of golf (although at least I normally manage once/week; aware there are some getting by on less and might be jealous of me!)

Once a week is enough to *just* about maintain the improvement trend, albeit it's awfully gradual at times. Sitting at 16.9 index now, so that's a couple off since the start of the year. I've also stuck my nose into the society at work which is enabling me a chance to play a handful of other local courses 1/month too.

Lastly - anyone not carrying a 7-wood... give it some serious thought. I've fallen in love with mine.
