C, C++, C#, Java, Javascript, Swift/Objective C, python, now I'm at a computer again, all with functions that let you decode the files pretty easily, some but not all with functions for encoding. I used C++ for the FIT course encoder that's now the library for plotaroute FIT output.

AndyS can see exactly how that would arise & be irritating. I suspect with the specific example you've mentioned (and I realise it's probably not the only one!), the lack of timestamps reflects the timing of HRV points needing to be a lot tighter than for everything else where second by second is adequate; Suunto used to do the same thing but even more so with the R-R intervals being one long list right at the end of the original data file, so no way at all to relate them to other data. fitparse might work better for you as it lets you iterate through the messages in file order IMS.

Realise a lot of you will be using higher specification garmins but looking for advice.

My forerunner 35 looks unfixable as the strap has torn the fixings from the watch housing so it's unwearable.

Have found a forerunner 45 for £129 or a 55 for £149. I can't see much difference between the two. Won

Side-by-side feature comparison below…

The improved battery life of the newer 55 might be the decider?

For £20 more I'd get the 55. It has Connect IQ apps as one difference. DC Rainmaker's site will allow you to do a comparison.

Might also be worth contacting Garmin regarding the 35. If the housing has broken that seems like a fault and they may give you a discount on a replacement.

Super advice all thanks.

I will try garmin, just worried that I bought it from wiggle and they seem have obliterated my account with their financial troubles.

Well the 55 is £139 on Amazon so £10 more is a no brainer if you have to buy a replacement.

When my 230 failed, Garmin gave me 30% off any forerunner as it was discontinued at that point. Think that may only apply to full price though (which would still be slightly less that the Amazon price).

The housing failed on my 245 a couple of years ago and as it was still under warranty they replaced it. That's how I realised the 230 was dead as I was going to use it when I sent the 245 back.
