I’m not sure but there’s a “race against time” or something like that too that might work for you.

I've used VP in the past on my Fenix 5X (it won't go slow enough for me now!) - it doesn't need a course, just multiplies pace * time and compares that with how far you've gone.
The "race activity", on the other hand, needs an actual activity - although I'm not sure if it uses the actual course, or just the elapsed time & distance.

You only need a course if you want to use PacePro, as then it'll adjust pace for the gradients. If you have a course (with no PacePro) that as a pace set, then the VP will use that pace. The standard VP should work with any run, and can be set with the 'Set a Target" option in the pre-run menu.

Just had an odd discrepancy between Garmin and s*****. I've got long sight so don't always see the figures clearly when running (especially wearing sunnies); as I'm just starting running again I'm not going far and I'm run/walking. I thought Garmin said 4.9km distance so decided on just one more run bit before stopping - then when I stopped it said 4.89km, which puzzled me but I put it down to me making a mistake. Then uploaded to s***** and the distance is 5.19km.
Looking at the splits here it seems that the final run interval didn't register any distance, only time. Any idea why that might be?

Was your run supposed to start and stop in the same place? If so, it appears that Garmin lost the satellite connection for the final 2 minutes of running.

The funny thing is that in strava the run stops short compared to the run on Fetch (which matches with the lap intervals and the final one showing n distance) yet rava shows a 3.22m distance whereas fetch shows only 3.04m, so the two systems have opposite interpretations of the data.
What does Garmin connect show I wonder?

You could download the gpx file from connect and check what happened to the last track points. If you can't make sense of the XML code, you could send it to me per email. If you're interested shoot me a PM and I'll have a look.

Connect shows the same stop point as strava - which I would say is the correct stop point & looks to me the same as on here. Connect also has the distance as 4.89km.
Re satellites, I don't think that's the issue as it seems too neat for it to lose only the last two minutes, and none of the preceding walk (going by previous the walk distances).
I've never looked at an XML file. Will PM you tipsku!
