I was alerted to the smell of burning whilst charging my Garmin (Forerunner 235) last night - watch itself was smoking and the charging cable was too hot to touch. Watch was clean and dry at the time. I can only assume the battery failed and caused a short. Bit worrying though - I'm pretty sure this would have caused a fire if unattended.

That is worrying. I had a Fitbit Ionic and there was a recall because of something to do with the battery burning people. I'd had it nearly four years and still got over £200 back. It might be that Garmin needs to consider doing the same, definitely report it to them.

It seems like gadgets work very well generally - it's the battery or charging that lets them down!

Email sent last night, awaiting response. Watch was ~3 years old and out of warranty but, as I pointed out, hardly an acceptable failure mode either from a reliability or product safety point of view.

They'll also have strict liability for ten years under the Consumer Protection Act 1987, had any damage arisen (i.e. injury, damage to property - not damage to the device itself).

Updated in 2015 to the Consumer Rights Act. Products need to be:

Of satisfactory quality, as described, fit for purpose and last a reasonable length of time.

Essentially the more you spend the longer it should last. So 3 years for a Garmin isn’t reasonable

Hope you get sorted with it 🤞

Quick question - Dows anyone know how to remove all routes from a Fenix 6? I have 50+ courses, most of which I will never do again, or at least not for a long time so would like to remove them. Going through one by one and deleting them seems like a tedious task.

I've wondered the same about my 645 - its easy to push stuff over onto the watch, but there's no interface in GC or on the website which says "delete these from watch".
