I think they’ve got a fair bit of stock of some of the 6 variants still. Not a bad price for that…

Also hearing that multiband GNSS is only on the sapphire units across the range. Which makes it pretty expensive to buy into. Pity as that is one of the things that might have convinced me the upgrade was worth it. (I mean I’ll probably do a flanker and buy one eventually anyway, but certainly won’t be first kid in the block with one) That's interesting. I wonder if that is a Garminesque way of recouping what I expect will be some pretty big licensing costs if they've gone for across-the-board GNSS access? |

do you need licensing costs for GNSS? I would have expected that to be covered by the chipset vendor but I could be wrong.

I'd guess the software to derive improved accuracy from multiband is potentially an area where Garmin might licence the tech, but I'd probably expect Garmin to be pretty well advanced with their own algorithms to do it too given how much of what they do is GNSS based. I may be talking nonsense however!

There are licensing costs for some multiband use, but GPS and Galileo both have open options for that now (not on all the GPS satellites yet, it's distinct from the military signals)

The new Fenix 7 is up on the Garmin website. Doesn’t really look like much of an upgrade for anyone currently using a Fenix 6. garmin.com |

My new shiny lasted for 3 months before it became the old dull Can't see anything on the summary that would tempt me to shell out again. |

Anyone watch the Geowizard Youtube channel? I first discovered him about five years ago (or more) when I started playing Geoguessr. He is on his third straight line mission across Wales and navigating with a Garmin figures very strongly in what he does.
