You can see it live on some watches but it doesn’t record. You can also see the last 4 hours and 7 days average for Resting HR as part of the metrics, perhaps this is enough? That’s all off optical HR though

Have a look at the DC Rainmaker reviews for more info.

I'm slightly confused about what you're trying to achieve. Do you want to record HR data during an activity recorded on your Garmin, which should be no problem, or do you want to record real-time lifestyle data? If the latter you'll need to use the optical HRM on your watch (if it has it) as garmin devices won't record lifestyle data, even if the device is connected.

Garmin Connect shows my HR data from my runs from my wrist HRM ok - high, low, time in zones. As I understand I can only see the data for the HRM-Dual live while I'm running by continually looking at my watch. I can't look at the breakdown on Connect after. I hope this makes sense.

Are you sure about this?

If you have the Dual connected during an activity that will be the data you're seeing in Connect, not that from the OHR (in fact the watch will turn off the OHR during an activity if you have an external HRM attached. (This often doesn't happen until a little way into an activity at which point the green lights will turn off). The dedicated HRM data takes precedence. You can check the Dual is connected from the sensors menu in settings.

Aah thanks Flanker. If the Dual takes over that would be perfect. So if using my my usual display screen with fields: Distance, Timer, Lap pace, Heart Rate - the heart rate shown is from the Dual rather than the inbuilt wrist HRM - it has overidden it as you stated?

Yes. I've never used a Dual, but if it's like any of the other recent ones it should be evident as it will provide extra run dynamics data than the watch alone can do.

It doesn't support that, flanker, just heart rate. Very old school apart from the Bluetooth support. Agree about everything else though

dcrainmaker's review excerpt: 'No data storage or fancy metrics here', but I don't need fancy metrics, only to know that the Dual data from my run is sent to Connect. Thanks so much for your help everyone!

Just to confuse things a little, if you do want to see the HR that the Dual is recording as well as the built in optical you can do that by using the Auxiliary HR data field that can be downloaded from Garmin ConnectIQ.

You end up with the optical being the HR that is stored but you can see a graph of what the other one recorded. I use it to check that the optical wrist one matches my Polar OH1+

Without wanting to derail the current discussion, there was 'lots' if relocation at tonight's night o!

(Much of it micro relocation, but still requiring relocation skills)
