Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Personally I found it was the texture that did the damage so the foam or rubberised gym flooring helped. As a disclaimer, I am quite hairy so others results may differ šŸ˜‚

Best single and easiest thing I ever did was to switch to two meals a day. No breakfast, just coffee and green tea in the morning, although ā€œlunchā€ is usually egg based. It just means fewer calories ingested over 24 hours I suppose. Took some getting used to but I donā€™t feel like food first thing now.

A week away from the thread and 32 posts to catch up on - that'll teach me! :)

I'll not attempt to comment on them all but will just say ..

RevBG - huge congrats for getting under the 14st barrier (my own target that I'm currently failing miserably to get under) .. and apart from the silly someone irritating you by saying you are skinny, nice to get some remarks from others about how good you are looking.

Shades - sounds like your neighbour doesn't 'get it' at all re going to the gym to maintain your health.

I'm slowly getting back on my feet (literally & metaphorically). I walked into town on Wed to collect some new headphones - a 2ml round trip and no problems. So will try a longer walk (3mls or so) over the next few days.

@Gooner - yes, it is the texture which is the issue.

@non-runner - I was an inveterate breakfast eater all my life. When I did keto for a while 8 years ago, I suddenly found I didnā€™t need it any more. Same thing happened after I had been been eating lower carb (but not keto) for a couple of months, and then ate a late high carb processed meal one evening after choir concert. I couldnā€™t face breakfast the following morning - and Iā€™ve never gone back to it.

People do generally consume fewer calories when eating 2 meals no snacks rather than 3 meals plus snacks, even though the meals can be quite generously sized and rich. But hereā€™s what makes the difference - I donā€™t feel much hunger. Whereas when I was eating more often, I was often hungry between meals. And the hunger had a different quality. It was an urgent ā€œGod, Iā€™m starvingā€ feeling. Whereas now hunger is mostly a sort of - ā€œhmm, I could eat and enjoy itā€ feeling. So you eat fewer calories with little effort and no counting. At least thatā€™s my experience.

I *can* eat breakfast, e.g. when staying in a hotel where itā€™s included. But I always do meat and egg-based with minimal carbs. And then one other meal in the day suffices. I suspect that cereal, juice and breakfast pastries would be a slippery slope for me.

@WtnMel yes, it is nice to have positive comments. As long as they donā€™t stray over into ā€œdonā€™t go too far territory,ā€ or even the ā€œare you still slimming?ā€ one. Drives me nuts!

I still donā€™t know what my eventual weight will be. I am aiming for 11 stone, but itā€™s more of a rough ballpark than a do-or-die line. If I donā€™t quite get there but I feel well and my health markers are all good, then that will be it. If I do get there, then there is an ā€œapproaching maintenanceā€ protocol I plan on following, which is designed to embed the new weight as your set point. And it is likely to result in further weight loss, some or all of which will be regained as you then transition into long term maintenance.

So if that results in my settling somewhere lower than 11 stone - and again, if I feel well and my health markers are good - then so be it.

That flexibility, however, does mean I canā€™t really afford to go to town on the wardrobe front until I am sure I have arrived and am staying put. Thank goodness for charity shops, eh? I took a load more clothes down to the Sally Army clothes bank earlier, including a number of items I bought in the summer, cos I didnā€™t have anything to fit me. They are now all too big. Getting rid of them is a vote of confidence that they will be no good to me next summer :-)

Well done LG. That's a lot to lose in just over a week, considering you don't have much to lose.

RevB - you're having to spend a lot more time clothes sorting, disposing and buying new stuff now šŸ˜€

Thanks. Not bad considering it was birthday on Monday.

Havenā€™t really changed much in my eating but just made a conscious effort not to do the snacking in between. What I also gave up was my wine and Pringles last weekend and last night.

Just came home and made a batch of lentil soup for lunches and I have a stir fry for tonight.

LipGloss - well done, I love a good relaunch.

Shades - yes, I know, itā€™s such a trial :-)

Functional Fitness this morning. Again, I donā€™t know what the trainer was on!! Different one from last week. Warm up, then 3 minutes on the bike. Then 1 minute each of 6 different exercises, with NO BREAK between them, about 30 seconds to grab a drink, then repeat. Back on the bike for 3 minutes, then basically the same again itā€™s 6 different exercises.

On the downside, I still have issue with things which challenge balance. Such as single leg Romanian Deadlifts. I just overbalance and have to put a toe down. On the up side - I am so much fitter and more energetic than I used to be. I still may have told the trainer to F off a couple of times (under my breath) when he wanted us to do more, harder, faster, lol.

But my body feels good. Stronger. More together. And - although this kind of doesnā€™t make sense, because I still have plenty of flab - leaner. But itā€™s like I can feel the lean body underneath a blanket (well, a duvet) of fat, which is gradually deflating.

Itā€™s an eating day today. Have had a nice lunch, and this evening we are going to dinner with a couple from choir who have invited us round. Then tomorrow is a fasting day, with on this occasion one meal (cos I love my Sunday lunch) - and we are going out, so neither today or tomorrow is going to be a particularly light eating day. But I think thatā€™s fine, it does you good to pause. It is the alternating between eating and fasting which works the magic of fasting.

Then from Monday, back on the program. Iā€™m really happy with how my 50 days of alternate day fasting are going. Scalewise, the first 10 days seemed to be a bust. But you know what happens - whoosh! After several weeks of ā€œI just canā€™t get below 14stā€ I am now well below. And feeling good.
