I'm having a huge problem with my house at the moment. I have so much stuff, I'm not good at throwing things away. I've got a sofa bed that was needed for the time when I was going through the divorce, but now I'm in my house it's a thing that takes up so much space. My living room isn't huge, but likewise, it isn't a small room, but with two hamsters a 3 seater settee and a rocking chair, having a sofa bed is an unnecessary addition that just takes up space. The whole thing about living in the space you have in that article was really good.

I feel in a constant state of overwhelm with the stuff in the house, coupled with actual jobs (aside from housework) that need doing in the house.

I decided to try selling some books as I have loads that I'll never reread. I downloaded an app on my phone and filled up a small box. Need to print out a label and send it off tomorrow. I have potentially earned the huge sum of £6! ;-)

I'll take some to the charity shop as well but it's nice to earn coffee money occasionally.

jabberknit
Decluttering has commenced at Jabberknit Towers fetcheveryone.com/blog . I hope that posting here from time to time will encourage and motivate me to keep going as I am a very reluctant shedder of goods and chattels and don't enjoy it.

So, the utility room is more or less done, and about half the kitchen including the old-fashioned understairs pantry (which housed the national spider collection). Living room next, though there's not too much extraneous stuff in here, apart from an over-crammed bookcase and my yarn cupboard. Started tackling this yesterday and it has brought to light a lot of yarn but also 7 pairs of scissors, a lot of beads and some school photos of DD1. No idea why they were in there, but they amused DD1 when I put them on our WhatsApp - she'd forgotten she used to have braces and long hair.

We now have lots of stuff in boxes and bags ready to go out of the house on Monday. Just need to stop myself looking through the yarn again, or it'll find its way back into the cupboard.

".... This month, each of you must get rid of one thing on the first day. On the second, two things. Three items on the third. So forth, and so on. Anything can go! Clothes, furniture, electronics, tools, decorations, etc. Donate, sell, or trash. Whatever you do, each material possession must be out of your house—and out of your life—by midnight each day."
