6 books bought to library to donate 4 of which I've had years and know I'll never read (not my genre)

I bought 4 books from our local library this week. I've also arranged that I will return them to the library when I've read them and they can resell them. Our library is run by a charity. Means no excess clutter for me too as I don't keep novels once read.

It's brilliant our libraries often have book sales. That's a great idea about returning them

When I asked about returning the books, initially they looked at me like I was mad. But I normally give novels to a charity shop so I might as well give them back to them. The library is amazing now the charity run it. Previously when the council ran the library it was miserable, useless staff in a dingy setting.

I rearranged my desk in the study yesterday, part of which entailed working out what was filling up my 'old school' 3-tray setup (the old-fashioned in/pending/out setup). There was some actual paperwork that needed to be dealt with (bank & credit card statements etc.). But I also found 3 old phones, none of which I need as I have a spare; an old pair of glasses which had only one arm, the other having broken off!; a number of old magazines; boxes for said surplus old phones + user guides/warranty details etc; some playing cards; a huge amount of surplus papers (articles from magazines). Goodness knows what I thought all this 'stuff' was good for - but it has now been discarded, recycled or put somewhere else. And what remains is now sitting in a far nicer tray, waiting to be dealt with.

.. I forgot to mention one rather good 'find' in those old trays full of 'stuff' was 600 euros cash and 100 euros Amex travellers cheques (circa 2004!). I exchanged the 600 euros this morning and have paid the cash into my bank account. I discovered this afternoon that even though those travellers cheques are 20 years old, they don't expire and I've submitted a refund request online to cash them in (just need to wait and see if they need any further info or proof of id).

I have some gift cards we got for our wedding, thinking we'd spend them when we got a house. They expired.

".... This month, each of you must get rid of one thing on the first day. On the second, two things. Three items on the third. So forth, and so on. Anything can go! Clothes, furniture, electronics, tools, decorations, etc. Donate, sell, or trash. Whatever you do, each material possession must be out of your house—and out of your life—by midnight each day."
