My daughter went through all our digital pics a year or so ago. They were already chronological so she arranged them into books, roughly one book per year ordered via Photobook. It’s nice to have hard copies to look through.

When moving I found a box of photos. I think most are spares, but they warrant a better look and arranging if needed.

I also want to make a photo collage for my wall of my recent cycling holiday, and Teen 1 has suggested having a wall of family pics, which might be nice going up the stairs.

I bought a giant frame from ikea and filled it with a collage of photos I need to update it mind you.

I’ve since done a smaller one from my New York trip and have one from Oman to do.

The annual photo books are a good idea too. Great keepsakes.

We’ve done a couple as Christmas or birthday gifts. They’re not too time consuming once you have all the pics and a lovely personal gift.

When clearing the loft I found three large Ikea clip frames with photo collages from student and pre-kids days. They were ace! Though I sent quite a lot of the pics back to XH.

Meglet - snap! (re Teen1's idea) .. we've recently been going through some photos from various holidays with a view to having them on the wall as you go upstairs.

Re photos generally .. I'm 'old school' and do still have photo albums sitting around. I brought them up to date a few years ago when I had a load of my digital photos printed. Mind you, they've not been updated with the last few year's worth of photos yet!

Trying to get back on topic, I've not actually done any de-cluttering lately. But over xmas while looking for the cd's for installing software on my new laptop, I did roll my eyes at the amount of crap in my 'general bits & pieces' cupboard and vowed to start the new year with having a clearout of it. I mean, how many duplicates of various computer & usb cables and old hard drives from long-gone pc's does one man need? ;)

Oh don't get me started on computer bits Mel, we have a box of those too and cables for long lost PCs.... my husband is a horder (you never know when a lead may come in useful) and he's very good at taking them and putting them somewhere for 'safe' keeping i.e. the bloody loft!

I mean we had a kettle in there I swear I've never seen, probably one someone was throwing out and he thought 'ohhh that may be useful' good job I love him!

Carpathius
I had loads of photos printed but they came through mixed up. We spent several years going to Cornwall for a week each summer and from all these random photos I had no end of trouble deciding what was from which year!

I took a lot of cables and unknown electrical bits to be recycled. Cables are not expensive if you find you need one. Though I may have taken a plug for a light I hadn’t used much, but I’ve borrowed a suitable plug/transformer from a different light for now.

Hi Meglet - cables are mostly relatively cheap, but power supplies aren't - as I found to my cost. Disposed of one which I assumed was from an old mobile phone, only to find it was for a much needed (in winter) window vac. Nearly cheaper to buy a new window vac than just the power supply. (now back to hoarding power supplies, just in case :-( )

What a pain. The problem is they often look similar but it’s not always obvious what they’re for. At one point I married up most of mine and put colour coordinating stickers on! I much prefer ones that are branded so you can tell what they’re for!

Fierce and Festive Fleecy
My solution (suggested by the declutterer) was to corral all the orphaned power cables into a bag to go together. That way when Mr fleecy says ‘where’s the thing for this?’ I can give him the bag and have him give up in disgust :) At some stage I’ll take the bag to the tip. My declutterer also put labels on the commonly used ones.
