but an expensive way of doing it!
tbh, I'm happy enough in my tent on campsites. At a push, if it was only me, I could sleep in my car - I'm wondering about a micro-conversion for it - Who was it on here drove a Berlingo conversion? I'm sure someone blogged about one?
I don't think a small van would be big enough to be comfortable for husband, though. So if we do go for one, it'll probably be the smallest coach-built we can find.

We're quite happy without hook-up too. There's a solar panel on the roof which tops up the battery nicely.

Never once needed a hook up in six years, however I concede that our use of the vehicle might be different to most people's. I can't remember the last time we used a proper camp site, we are definitely wild campers 🙂

Rosehip - hubby is for a motorhome, I love my camper. It works well for us, we have a drive away awning for longer stays or a small one for weekends. I am told I take way too much stuff (Sarahwoo's hubby finds it amusing with the amount of stuff we take). Hubby is 6ft 3 and has no issues with sleeping in the van.

Tim - re. Long wheelbase, I was having exactly the same conversation with a friend the other day as he planned his conversion. He wisely opted for SWB, doing otherwise would have resulted in something that did not meet his criteria.

Yes, we have a Berlingo conversion (we have a Partner now, but it's basically the same car). It's a removable kit which we only put in while camping and basically folds out to make a double bed in the back (you put the back seats down and push the front seats forward). Then there's a bit of storage space underneath and a pull out stove. You can also fold it in a different way to make a seating area/table, but you can only do one or the other at any one time and it's obviously not big enough to wander round in/have any form of loo etc. We use it with a tent which we can put luggage in when it's folded out and use as a space to stand up and get changed in/sit in.
It's not the most luxurious solution but a bit more comfortable than a tent, and being removable means we can store the camping bit in the garage and just use the car as a normal car the rest of the time.
