Mine is a 1 to 2 night vehicle. It has a bed and storage plus solar to charge the 2 batteries.
I'm a racer with a van not a camper.
We have purchased a solar shower for emergencies but unused so far. No desire to have a toilet on board and usually stay somewhere that has one.
NE - I have a Skoda and a Fiat for Cars as I dont buy the whole VW quality debate however the old Van's have a very good reputation for being quite solid especially compared to Mercedes Vito and Other Van's.

When I costed up how much it would be to stay in a B&B for the equivalent number of nights that we were away in a year of motor home holidays, Rosehip, I reckoned that within 2 years we were better off financially. We do use the motor home a lot usually, and will go for more longer stays now I’ve got the time. The expense of buying the motor home is hard to swallow at the time, but they have a decent resale value for quite a few years, which is why it’s cheaper in the long term. There is also more choice of where to stay - like SW, we found that there isn’t that B&B option at some of our favourite places. Each to their own 💕💕

(wonders what insurance would be for a new 17 yr old driver to have a Berlingo or Partner or similar and whether youngest would find one acceptable...)

We’ve just bought a caravan instead!
Mate of mine decided to sell his (a bit out of the blue) and so we’re giving it a go. It was a spur of the moment decision but a *lot* cheaper than buying a van.
Still looking forward to being part of the discussion on here though.

We had a caravan for years, Angus, and got a lot of fun out of it.
The motorhome was our retirement plan but we brought it forward a couple of years because Mr Woo's new company car wouldn't tow and we didn't want to buy a tow car.

Our motor home is also the retirement dream, but we bought it 3 years ago as I don’t think I’d have been confident of paying out that much if I wasn’t working to top up the savings pot. I’m glad we did it then as we’ve had 3 extra years to enjoy it.

We're exactly the same!
Pre-lockdown, at least, we reckoned we were about two years from retirement and we had talked about getting a camper at that point. We weren't sure we'd get enough use out of it while still working. We took the plunge in March and haven't regretted it. Accepted, it will probably be more long weekends and short trips than anything else for those two years and longer trips will have to wait a bit. (And we haven't dared re-do the retirement sums yet!)
YOLO, as our offspring used to say when it was in vogue.

We have a T4 conversion with a pop up roof. I would find it awkward using the hob without the roof up (I am 5ft 5) We don't sleep upstairs but use the rock and roll bed. No facilities which has limited the sites we could use this year. Chose it over a motor home as it is our second vehicle and the parking issues. We use a drive away awning if we are staying a few days in the same place. Cheaper than b and b and has encouraged us to explore the UK. Not into the whole VW thing just like the set up. Bought it ready converted 4 years ago.
