Yeah, our campervan was fine and there were a few others doing the same in their vans, but I didn’t see any MoHos and definitely no caravans!

There were loads of cyclists on there. Great to see. There were also people on long roller skates, with ski poles, ‘skiing’ up. I’m sure the things on their feet have a particular name but ‘long roller skates’ is the best I can do |

I know the things you mean, Big_G. They terrified me when they were going down ahead of us, the speed they take the hairpins 😱

Roller skis I’ve been overtaken by a “Viking” roller skiing up an 8% climb while I was on my road bike. Either I’m a pathetic climber or he was jolly impressive!

We have had a lovely drive and our site is right next to a massive lake that as soon as it stops raining the dog and I will go and explore. Sadly looks like no paddleboarding. Weather is not looking good tomorrow bit is then meant to brighten up. At least we can sit outside at this site 😁

Coming towards the end of our 3 weeks, and arrived at this site in Normandy yesterday and went to one of the famous beaches nearby - Omaha. Lots of info on D Day, and monuments etc, and although it was a lovely beach with loads of space, I couldn’t really get it out of my head what had happened there in the war, so found it strange walking around. Hard to explain - but on the one hand enjoying being there with OH and Tigg, having a nice time, but on the other hand the knowledge of what went on there wasn’t far from my mind. Up early this morning as we went the 90mins or so down to Mont Saint-Michel, which is a huge abbey built on an island, accessible by the beach when the tide is out (these days there is a bridge connecting the mainland to the island). We had read up about it and knew to get there early, which we did, but it was still really busy, and it’s nowhere near peak season here. Tigg wasn’t happy as we left him in a kennel for the day, as the information centre had kennels for dogs, if owners wanted to go into the abbey, which we did (dogs not allowed in). Don’t think I’ve ever come across that at an attraction before, but it was really good, although like I said Tigg was very unhappy and we could hear him barking and whining as we walked away, still in earshot after 5mins. He was fine when we picked him up though. The island and abbey were nice and I’m glad I went, we had a nice lunch etc, but it was too busy for me, with coach loads of people coming in and out. Unbelievably, I saw an America tourist going for a pee against a building, even though there were toilets, with loads of people around. Afterwards, we went to a different beach for Tigg to have a run around, and back at the site now. Midday ferry tomorrow, although we are going to Poole (not Plymouth) as we couldn’t get a dog friendly cabin for a Plymouth return journey. Still much, much better than Dover though! From a running point of view, I feel I’ve done well and kept it up whilst on holiday. Will have been away 3 weeks and I did 41 and 31 the first two weeks. Not loads, but also did 12 and 17 of purposeful, often hilly, walking (those walking figures didn’t include all the shorter walks that happened as I don’t track those). It’s been a great trip - lots of highlights. The two parkruns, Dolomites were just spectacular, Alps also. Como nice, but busy, but glad I went. Mont Blanc. Stelvio, etc. What I love about Dolomites is that it’s just full of active people. I found this last time I went, but whether it’s runners, walkers, cyclists, mountain bikers, rock climbers, etc, there are people there ‘to do stuff’ and I really, really like that type of environment. Comparing to Alps, Dolomites is better imho. Dolomites is more rugged somehow, more spectacular. Also maps available showing all the trails, and ski lifts open (which they weren’t in the Alps, although they are later in the season). We’ll go back at some point, I’m sure. |
