If you're prepared to wild camp and risk the rath of the locals there isn't actually any legislation anymore that says you can't stay in your van (ditto 2nd homes, canal boats etc). Not for the first time the rhetoric from ministers isn't actually what they've put into law. The Daily Telegraph blew the whistle on them about 10 days ago. The legislation only stops you sharing indoor space with others not in your household and the commercial letting of holiday accommodation.

Mine did a 400 mile round trip yesterday and for my sins was thrashed mercilessly as I was late.
Lateness caused by my "reliable car" braking down 20 mins into the journey but us managing to limp home.

After all the recent activity cleaning and prepping vans & motorhomes for travel and trips just a gentle reminder to drain down your toilet and water tanks if there’s a risk of freezing temperatures where you are.

Contemplating a decent stereo in the van. One I'm looking at has a remote, which made me think that I could use that instead of taking a Bluetooth speaker for in the back of the van. However, that would drain the main van battery.
Has anyone hooked one up to the leisure battery, or is that not possible?

Apparently stereo/nav systems draw more current than you think and a lot of vans have a timeout function to avoid flattening the main battery, ours turns itself off after about an hour I think.
I don't see why you couldn't wire one into the leisure battery, assume you would still want it dash-mounted? It would then be independent of primary ignition functions of course.

Yeah, would definitely still be dash mounted as that's the main function we want it for. It is just a bit of an after thought that it may be good to use as our main stereo in the van so I wonder if anyone has done this.
I've got a couple of decent Bluetooth speakers that we plan to take with us, so not really a big deal either way.

I dont have a toilet or water tank
I keep thinking about a better stereo but given mine is easier to steal than candy from a baby I haven't bothered.

We upgraded to a Kenwood for the SatNav more than anything. It is Bluetooth.
We still use a Bluetooth speaker for music as it is easier to use in the awning or if sitting outside

When booking a campsite and you're given the option of grass or hardstanding, which would you choose if prices were the same?
I always feel like they are promoting hard standing as a benefit, but I feel like I would prefer grass. Does it depend on the season?

Not a lot of experience of this so far. I'm guessing hardstanding is more likely than not to be level and possibly nearer the heart of a site (and therefore other vehicles, washblock etc). I suppose it depends on the site.
I'd go for grass. We keep a pair of chocks under the seat, which have already proved useful.
