Glenmore is one of our favourite sites. We book hardstanding and it’s only a couple of minutes walk to the beach.

Just trying to book my first ever motorhome rental for a trip in either April or June. Are there any things to look out for / beware of? It seems very reasonable - 3 days for £330, the dog (clean, well behaved) is allowed etc. Thanks, ![]() |

Just make sure you know how wide it is, how long it is and how high it is. And practise reversing it before you are in a situation where you have to reverse it! (Frankly, the rental company should tell you how it all works and what goes in where and comes out where.) |

I don't have loads of experience renting, but check what's included in terms of gas (for cooking), fuel and equipment and any restrictions on mileage or insurance that you might think could be problematic. When we hired a VW campervan it came with pots, pans, cookware and everything we needed except bedding and towels. Happy travelling ![]() |

I’d also recommend getting some excess insurance cover - just in case. The excess on hire policies is often £1000+ and paying maybe £30-40 to bring that to zero could be worthwhile.

My brother hires one when he comes over from Oz (hopefully he'll be able to do that again soon) as it's cheaper to hire one than a car + hotel bills. The first time, they told him nothing about it but it was fully stocked apart from towels. The second one from a different company had much less provided, but they spent an hour showing him how everything worked. - So check with the hire company |

I do love the VW camper van and I was at one stage looking at buying one, but they really hold their price (i.e. they are expensive), which put my dreams on hold, still I can always win the lottery ![]() |

We tend to look at the site and what pitches are where and the pick that way. Ha e uses both grass and hardstanding. Just need heavy duty pegs for the hardstanding

Forestry Scotland plan to do the Stay the Night trial again this year. details will appear here when it opens up on the 26th forestryandland.gov.scot 31 sites in total. Did anyone use this last year? How did it go? These are simply forestry car parks and they are allowing vans to stay in them overnight. You arrive after 6pm and have to leave early. There is a minimal charge on some sites, but others are free. No facilities though. Sounds like a great way for new owners like me to try out off-grid camping for the first time. |
