Been enjoying reading people's spots :-)

Best bunch of birds I've seen in a good while today on my walk - just your 'normal' stuff - Blue and Great Tits, Goldfinch, lots of LTT, a Goldcrest, Robins, oooo a Treecreeper - but it's been so busy over where we walk usually that the birds are so much harder to find as they're moving further into the bushes/higher up the trees...... today was lovely and quiet and they were all out having a play :-)

Our local reserve has to put out a 'telling off post' the other day as people visiting have been breaking down the fences and screens and going into the reserve areas in front of the hides/reed beds as the hides are closed. I have NO words.

Thanks for the confirmation, folks. Have seen a goldeneye on the river a couple of times before but not for a while.

My old eyes aren't so bad after all.

Had a close encounter of the robin kind in a car park yesterday. Poor thing was obviously looking for food and was on my wing mirror almost knocking on the side window to come out.

Had a dog biscuit which it started fighting a great tit over. This cold weather must be so harch for them.

Surelynot if you don't have any suitable food in that situation when the ground is frozen find an area of leaf litter under a tree/hedge and and try to scuff it up with your foot to expose the loose earth underneath. The Robin will then be able to find things to eat in the loose earth.

apparently, there's a western cattle egret in the locality - I've seen egrets a few times this week, but they're not enough of a rarity for me to look closely at them. Next time I see one I shall look closer!
