I'm seeing quite a lot of black headed gulls on the local river. Always good to see.

Loving watching my garden birds. I work from my dining table and keep the binoculars handy to spy on them through the patio doors. Nothing exotic though, sparrows robins, blackbirds, blue tits and big fat wood pigeons.

D2 the easiest way to count geese is take a photo and count them on a larger screen. If you want to get really fancy you can use a package such as MS Paint to annotate the picture and help you count e.g. circle a smaller grouping, count it and put the number in the circle.

A quick way is to try to count say five or ten then work out fraction of whole number is ie there’s ten and it’s about a tenth so approx one hundred
Were they vocal? Probably pinkies changing sides of country. I follow a few local birders blogs and some days are huge regarding numbers

I hear tawnies every evening here too. They call from the park by the riverside and also from the woods on the other side of the main road.

I used to watch the birds while working in the kitchen - I've moved upstairs now which is a better working environment but means I don't get to see much other than the sparrows who live over the road when they're not raiding our bird feeder.

My desk is at the window overlooking our urban front garden. I love watching the birds from here and also have a set on bins on hand.
My 'best' spot in the garden wasn't a bird but a red squirrel. We have them in this corner of Scotland but I've yet to see another in town.
