No reason you shouldn't see a bluetit next to a bat box. You often see a robin next to a bat man.

I went on a successful Great Northern Diver search this afternoon. Found it feeding out in the middle of the Res and tracked it for about 20 mins before I lost it. They often travel quite a distance underwater and in choppy conditions like today that can make finding it again when it resurfaces hard work. The one saving trait is that they seem to generally keep progressing in roughly the same direction. The usual waterfowl suspects were supplemented by a pair of Pink Footed Geese and a pair of Pintail. Also got a really good close up view of a Goldcrest that appeared on a branch three feet in front of me as I was scanning the water.

I also learnt today that there were 20 Willow Tit territories recorded around the perimeter of the Res this year and that is believed to be the highest density recorded anywhere in the UK. That certainly explains why I find them relatively easy to see despite the general decline in their numbers.

Rosehip
This morning's run - so many birds it was like the start of spring!
Finally seeing the flocks of winter thrushes in the hedgerows - some of which were redwing - the berries that were there last week are totally stripped now.
On 1 5 mile run I saw buzzards, kites, and two kestrel and I think a sparrowhawk - but it was very quick across the path in front of me.
lots of pied woodies, haven't seen any here for ages and then today they were all over the place.
Bird feeder had several blue tits and sparrows. My robin was on the kitchen windowsill this morning and the starlings were back on the feeders too.
Was lovely :)

Went and watched/photographed a load of red squirrels which were very local to me and I had no idea about.

Partners grandad got talking to someone who told him about them and that he sounds £30 a week on monkey nuts which he puts at various places around the woods. We went up and he turned up at the same time. Had only seen a couple at that point. He walked to the feeding station and shouted breakfast and about 5 appeared from all directions. Was amazing.

Better obs than I managed Rosehip but I did see my first Goosander (a drake) on the river this morning although just down river two miles away in Cardiff Bay there are about eight reported.
Red Squirrels. Wow Roberto now that is really special.
And twenty Willow Tit territories FF is amazing and must be represent the total population for miles and miles.

On the 6th day of Christmas we walked to see
Six geese not laying

Greylag, barnacle, Canada, white fronted and tundra bean (I’m counting 6 to make it work because there were 2 white fronted!)

That's a good haul of geese HB. I fancied a Xmas trip to Gibraltar Point for some goose spotting but the restrictions rather put the dampers on that.
