Thanks, runnyeyes. We are hoping to have lunch at L’Enclume one day - we are treating it as the 30th wedding anniversary celebration that we had to forgo last summer, certainly not something we would usually do.
Other than wildly expensive restaurants, are there any other tourist trap places/activities we should try to avoid?

Paula - not many, really.
Bowness on Windermere, the summit of Coniston Old Man ... the followers of this thread could probably put together a top ten places to avoid in high season!

Midweek in September - even Bowness should be tolerable, though that's best reached by boat from Lakeside having got off the steam train from Haverthwaite, just up the road from Cark. Other than that, it's really quite hard to think of places not to visit.

[CumbriAndy - would the steam trains be running midweek in September? Maybe just weekends by then?].

Oh wow - L'Enclume is fab. We had our post-wedding-evening dinner there and stayed as a proper treat and present from friends, it will be epic.

Is L'Enclume one of these fantastically expensive places I could never afford to eat?!
