I was expecting more people at Tarn Howes and close to the lake though - not complaining! It's a fab route - a bit more warm weather acclimatisation beforehand would have made it even more enjoyable ![]() |

We’ve just booked ourselves a week away at the end of September, staying in Cark, near Cartmel. Never been to the Lakes before 😊

I’m assuming you were on an early start RH. Tarm Howes Howes would probably have been breakfasting at the time you got there.

Looks like I picked up my first tick bite in ages on Summerhouse Knott on Saturday. Have removed it using my tick remover and (I think) did it correctly - I'm presuming that since it was still alive (and wriggling) in the tick remover, that nothing was left in the bite. As long as I don't come down with any flu-like symptoms... |

I've had quite a few already this year Fozzy, more than is usual - I've heard other people say they seem to be especially prevalent. You can usually see if you've left anything in the bite, I remember having to do some proper battlefield surgery to get some bits out after one buried in particularly deeply.

Cheers NE - it looks clear on the bite. There was a fairly audible pop as it came out! Unlike midges which are very happy to attack me constantly, I *seem* to be fairly lucky with ticks and can't remember having more than a few - probably no more than 5 and pretty much all from orienteering in lakes/scotland. |

Very nice PaulaMc... you can easily access Coniston or Windermere from there. But not too far to drive around to Eskdale etc Cartmel is very pretty...my foodie family love it. |

I've had that "pop" too, it's truly amazing how tenacious is their hold on you. Hate the little feckers.
