East of the Kentmere Horseshoe is probably a good shout, fozzy. We're staying in Braithwaite in April but there may be a good half day walk to be had there on the day we drive in or out ...

It's a shame about the Kentmere Horseshoe being busy as it's one of my favourite days out.

If you're going to play around Shap remember your flotation device ;-) I remember some very damp and boggy days on the Three Rings (rip)

Made the mistake of going out later in the morning one Saturday between lockdowns. Coming off Barrow towards Braithwaite Lodge was like meeting a bus load of touroids on a day trip!!

Barrow, Latrigg, Catbells, etc, etc, to be avoided during the hours 10 AM until 4 PM.

Coming off Barrow on the Coledale Horseshoe in "normal" April can be a bit of a shock after 2hrs plus of running with no-one around but other fell runners, there's suddenly tons of people around, especially if it's nice!

My sole of my shoe gave way coming off the summit and I kept having to slalom my way down avoiding walkers last time I did it!

I must be the lucky one here then, as I've ran up/down, around and off Barrow dozens of times and I've never really noticed a surfeit of people. I like Barrow, one of the best descents in fell running - nearly as good as off Whiteless Pike to Buttermere :-)

Catbells is the one where the crowds really gather

Coming off Barrow when lots of people were gathering to watch the Coledale Horseshoe race was busy :)
