We have a cottage booked in Bassenthwaite for mid May. I’m hoping that it being termtime will mean the place isn’t completely rammed

I have a couple of campsites booked for weekends from Mid April onwards. My plan is to be self-sufficient and largely stay away from tourist traps.

I suspect the campsites will be pretty busy too Cath. I wonder if any of the ones that completely closed last year are planning on re-opening?

I’ve booked Caravan club ones - even when they’re full they won’t be as bad as lots of the other sites.

School age kids means August, looking forward to the inflatables on Derwentwater.
Not sure the Mountain rescue teams can cope with another year like the last one.

I was thinking to myself this morning that although I really want to get back into the fells, it might be wise to start thinking about lesser-trodden areas. I've still got over 100 Birketts to bag and most of those are well off-piste.
Saying that, we'd really like to finish our second "accompanied" lap of the Wainwrights this year - about 30 of those to go and some of those are right there in central Lakesville (Black Fell, Holme Fell etc). We've also got all the Eskdale fells to do again, but the problems there are fairly obvious

NE the solution to the more frequented tops is when the days are long chill somewhere quiet during the day and then head up around 5-6pm. There's still plenty of daylight (and even if you need to finish off in low light you've got the kit and the experience for that to be of no issue), most folk have headed off for their tea and often in the lakes it's a time of the day when weather patterns are settled. Getting back to the van late on is not exactly an issue in terms of food and accommodation is it?

Or vice versa. Go early and be coming down as the masses are arriving. We've both experienced some great early mornings on the fells during rounds when no one is around and dropping into a valley at the end is a real shock to the system.

I really want to recce some of the L50 - I can do the last leg if I can move that is after the Coniston marathon-thing, but goodness knows if/when I can get there to do any more. Daughter is back in Liverpool and not Carlisle, which doesn't help with additional excuses for an escape
