Conversely ran the Coledale Horseshoe route in early August when it had been pissing down all day and we saw 4 people in total, but all coming up Barrow when we were coming down.

Well on a wet day the short hike up barrow or the slog up bloody grizedale pike?
I know what I'd be doing if I were walking...

Just before the latest lockdown I managed to get out for a couple of days and climbed Grizedale Pike in the snow/ice. A couple of kids were pushing mountain bikes up despite the artic conditions, that was incredible but not quite as eye-opening as the couple that were lowering their toddler down the slope in the child's one-piece suit. Seriously, they were sliding it down the ice slope. One wrong move and that poor child would have ended up crashing down to the valley floor

some of the antics when we get a tiny bit of snow here are enough to make the toes curl of anyone who crashed a toboggan into a brick wall as a kid - but that is horrifying

I've probably undersold it. Ask me about it next time I see you.

Ros - still got the scars from doing exactly that (on the main descent of the only fell race in Leicestershire!)
It's always good to learn to self-arrest at an early age with a Fisher Price Ice Axe.

- me too and then I hit the same wall, probably less than a year later after an ill-considered skateboard race down the same road...
