Captain S
I was thinking about visiting the lakes in a couple of weeks time but in light of Your observations I think I’ll put it off. ☹️

We’re going in 10 days - I have a Tesco delivery booked - think I’ll make it a big one!

Without wishing to put people off any further - anybody coming up in the near future should be aware that access to the Lakes from M6 J36 is currently compromised by roadworks on the A590/591 that are due to go on until the end of the year. We've had leaflet telling us all about them but, frankly, the descriptions of whet they're doing and when make no sense even when you can go and look at what's actually happening on the road.
Currently:
There's no access across the bridge at J36 from the A65 (Kirkby Lonsdale direction) to the A590/591 - diversion is either through Kendal or down to J35. There's a contraflow all the way from the motorway past the Brettargh Holt junction at Sizergh - there's no access to the Western Lakes without diverting up to Kendal and back out again. Alternative route is via J35 and the A6.

I feel fortunate I did what I did last week. Yes stayed away from most of the tourist hot spots, only walked up one fell that I could get to from the campsite, and made all my own meals. My contribution to the local economy was limited to campsite and parking fees, however.

I’ve no intention or interest currently in going to the district. However updates are useful because we do have a week away planned in Scotland in October
We have one or two ‘projects’ to look at much nearer home at present too. Recces for one start this evening

NE 😂 I hope you passed on my regards. They aren't going to be very happy with me this weekend either as I'm deserting them to go and visit the ones on Leg 2 instead. Were you out on Dave's Elterwater Round?

It was certainly busy when I was last up at the beginning of the month, the previous trip in July was during the eat out to help out thing and we certainly struggled to book tables then.

FF - we had a long lap around Langdale planned and hoped to sync some of it up with him, however the traffic was bloody awful so we did a reverse of our planned route and met up with him and Pup on Harrison Stickle. We did get caught in those roadworks that Andy mentioned, they're really invasive and complex. The M6/A65 junction was closed to east-west traffic meaning we had to go down the M6 to Carnforth and then back up via Milnthorpe, it blew our schedule to pieces. And then the traffic into Ambleside was horrific ...... anyhow, we got back to Elterwater hostel in time to see them finish last night, tough day out.

Oh yes, I’d forgotten about that, eL Bee!
And the fudge I bought from the Honeypot in Hawkshead but that barely counts
