Oh? I've not heard that perl of wisdom before. I'd have thought the varying elevations would have meant greater accuracy in triangulation.

It’s a while since I went wandering in the Peak but don’t remember a plethora of trigs about the place

About all I know about the Peak is that experience gained on the HPM, but I can't recall an inordinate amount of trigs either.

Unless you specifically go looking for them you'd miss a lot of the ones in the Peak DT because they're on private land with no public access (at least 50% of those in my neighbourhood). And when you do start looking there are a lot more than you realised!

Most of the Peak has relatively small elevation changes so the LOS from a lot of the trigs is relatively short. Therefore your trigs end up being closer together and you get more per unit of area.
