Does everyone use the M6? I hate it and always do A1/A66 from here or a nice diagonal cross country from Wetherby. Now daughter is in Liverpool, I can see I'm going to be hitting the lakes from the south rather than east sometimes and unable to avoid it |

I suspect the majority of people coming from the south will use the M6. Similarly, those coming from the east and heading for the southern/western areas will most likely end up on the A65 at some point before attempting to cross the M6 at J36. Unless you want to properly take your time on some of the really minor roads there aren't that many sensible alternatives.

We’d been told of the road closures by the Lap organisers and planned accordingly to meander via Arnside for lunch but the signs stating it was night time closures only when we got closer but the info published said all weekend from memory ?

I think I'd still go to Consiton the "long way" around via the A66 from here. I should have been Lakeland Trailing and decided I'd used all my weekend passes and deferred it. Beginning to wish I hadn't. |

Eskdale this weekend. The camp site is fully booked, let’s see how an early Sat morning drive up goes.

Enjoy Dave. I was looking down at Eskdale yesterday and it looked bloody gorgeous. Still quite a few Birketts over that way that I haven't done, you can combine them to make some really nice circuits. Somehow or other I haven't done Little Stand either, am going to nab it when I next visit Hardknott.

We usually come off M6 at Milnthorpe for South Lakes (from W Midlands), so hopefully that route will be ok? We've a lodge booked at Keswick for half term ... can't be doing with eating out after a long day on the fells, so I'm afraid our efforts to support the local community are usually via Booths in Keswick. I'm not too proud to put the oven on and heat up a ready meal when I'm on my hols |
