Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

TBH I wouldn’t worry about it unless you were really coining it in. These are fairly small sums of money.

The one that drives me potty on HMRC self assessment is bank account interest. My current account gives me between £1 and £5 a month. But finding that total each year is a pain! It's such a trivial amount. But I feel bad if I miss it off the form!

I have seen £6 earned and £1 spent on my best day in May so far for solar. That would be nice if that were regularly repeated! :-) G

Same here with the bank account interest. Banks seem to omit the annual interest statement for current accounts, presumably because in the past they didn't pay interest. But some of them do now (eg Santander). I ignored it on the grounds that a) the monthly account fee cancels out most of the interest and paybacks and b) if banks were required by HMRC to provide annual statements for current accounts alongside savings ones, they would.

So the "energy price cap" is coming down but it's being reported in a way that is meaningless, at least to me. What is the "average family" anyway? I've yet to see anywhere that says what the per unit cost is. Apparently it's reducing by 7 percent so I guess electricity will drop from about 24p to about 22.5p or similar.

That's the calculator and yes, per kwh

Energy Price Cap Calculator – how much less will you pay from July?
And what are the unit rates and standing charges under the Price Cap?

Updated 24 May 2024

The Energy Price Cap, which controls what most households pay for energy, will fall again by 7% on average on 1 July, meaning the vast majority in England, Scotland and Wales will see their bills fall. What YOU PAY depends on your usage, how you pay and where you live. Use the calculator in this guide to estimate how much less YOU'LL pay.

How much less you'll pay under the Energy Price Cap from July
If you're on a standard, price-capped tariff (most are), plug your figures into the calculator for an estimate of the change to your energy costs...

What you'll pay under the Energy Price Cap from July 2024

Important (please read before using the calc):
1) This tool is only for those in England, Scotland and Wales.
2) It's for standard tariffs under the Price Cap, not fixed deals or Economy 7/10.
3) It doesn't factor in any debt or credit on your account.
4) It's not 100% accurate as each firm charges slightly different rates, but it should be in the right ballpark.
5) The tool gives an annual equivalent price under the Price Cap rates from July, but these will change again in October.

Bad for those of us with solar, standing charge is same or slightly higher and as we are net exporters, just means we earn less. Good for most of the country and most people's bills though. :-) G

I'm really shocked!! In a good way.

I took part in one event with SO energy to reduce usage during a peak time. Realised after that I didn't get anything for it other than being entered into a prize draw - figured you never win those things.

Today I received £25 Amazon voucher for said prize draw. Definitely worth the 1.5 hours of having my son whine that I wouldn't let him watch TV and he had to have his dinner 15 minutes earlier than usual!

Just signed up for half price electricity on a Sunday with British Gas. Not sure how much it will really save me, but might save the dishwasher/washing machine until then.

Email from Octopus today about a slight drop in the import tariff. Still keeping the export tariff unchanged though.

According to my latest statement from mid-May to mid-June I used 63 kwh and exported 346!
