KinkyS - there is talk of cheaper electricity at certain times of the day for all, (not saver sessions). That might be more of an incentive for you if it happens.

Half hourly varying tariffs are only available to those on smart meters. And I think even some of the cheap rate night tariffs are only available with smart meters.
Obviously missus and I are very lucky bei g able to work from home if we need workers to access house for repair and changes. Not everyone has that available to them. Needs to be better ways to support these changes for those can't easily be home.

Yep - if cheaper tariffs are offered for smart meters then I'll be all over it but I can't work from home for a significant portion of my job, and when I tried to book a slot it was any time between 8 and 1 or 9 and 6 depending on the day which is of no help.

I am with KS - there is currently no benefit for me getting a smart meter and there are plenty enough pitfalls and so I will resist until there is something in it for me
My Mum keeps trying to persuade me saying its great. However it clearly doesnt work as she still needs to send through manual readings

Smart meter free + home battery c £2k and you'll save 50% on your electricity per month and be reducing your burden on electricity grid and the planet. Fmail me if you want further info (I'm not selling anything just want to clog the thread with my evangelism!)
Or if there is a thread interst in my evangelism, let me know and I'll happily share info! G

Nope. Battery, no solar required. Payback obv droends how big your leccy bill is. 100 a month, save 50, payback in 40 months after that it's pure savings. Also partiality insulates you against any future rises. G

Physically how big? Size of a small cabin locker suitcase? Can go inside your house eg in a cupboard, loft if it can take the weight or some (like ours) are waterproof so can be installed on an outside wall.
