Solar and battery 13K here, with £100 plus saving / income a month, so under 10 year pay back, maybe 7 or 8 years. Would like to do heat pumps, to get rid of our £2K to £3K annual oil bills, but £20K - £30K investment, and will still cost a lot to run on electric too. Working on it! :-) G

Finally, after 8 months, Octopus has sorted out my gas meter and charged me for my gas. Fortunately I am still in credit to the tune of £56.00. So a fairly happy ending and I only chased them 3 times.

Love and Power…..does anyone else think Yours sincerely would be more appropriate?

Much to my own disgust, I went in to the winter with a ca £1k credit with my supplier (Octopus) and so I really reduced my monthly payments with a view to getting back to about a balance by the end of winter. I got an updated statement earlier this week and I'm about £300 in credit so on about the right trajectory.

So, today I got an email from Octopus telling me that they were about to double my DD in order that I get my account back to a 'healthy balance'. LOL.

I sent them a quite firm but perfectly polite email back detailing why what they were proposing was scandalous. They came back in less than an hour with their tails between their legs......

Happy to share what I sent if it would help anyone but it really only covered the obvious points that have been raised here in recent times:

- I'm in credit, WTF?!
- consumption is about to decrease
- prices are about to decrease
- in what world is it 'healthy' for me to build up a large credit balance with them
- get stuffed

:-)

lol WW, I am expecting similar. I have taken exactly the same course as you with numbers spookily very similar

I did note last night there are a couple of interesting looking fixes available, albeit with a penalty if I exit. One to weight up the options around.

Soooo, EDF keep inviting me to take part in 'Beat the Peak' where I can earn money by reducing my electricity usage during peak times.

They say if I put off running a load of laundry, for example, I could earn £7.

So far, I have remembered to take part twice and earned a grand total of.... 29p.

Where have they got £7 for a load of laundry from? at my old house, where the home display for the smart meter actually worked, a load of laundry cost approx 40p. to run.

I smell freshly laundered bullshit.

Also I am currently £700 in credit with them. As we're heading into summer now, is it worth trying to get some of this back? I thought the companies were supposed to do an automatic credit if you went over a certain amount? Or have I imagined that?

CB - I suspect that's over the course of the year if you shift a whole bunch of things (e.g. washing, cooking, tumble drier etc) from peak -> offpeak and basically don't use any electricity during peak hours

Some useful information on Martin Lewis podcast (BBC sounds) yesterday about fixes and whether or not they beat the price cap.

A little on EV tarrifs too.

Yesterday's - for Octopus at least was £1.75 for each kWh of energy saved. Theynase the saving o the reduction compared to your average use during the saver session time over the previous ten days - so if it's 5pm-6pm and you don't normally use much electricity during that time, then the scope for saving is low.
I've been lucky, and also have a home battery thay I can charge before the ti.e and then export to the gris during the session - I think I've earned about £70 so dar this winter.

Sorry for typos - I really ought to proofread before posting rather than after!
