On council tax, I live in a terraced house in a working class town in the SW and mine is more than what is due on Buckingham Palace. Make sense of that. |

Just in time for the warmer weather when usage goes down - lets hope they stay there for the 2024/25 winter. By my calculations my huge credit balance will more or less have been used up when we get beyond March, so lower pricing will be nice but I may still need to put my monthly DD up a little |

I did note when I looked last week that gas prices on the curve are well under 30 €/MWh and so are down at 2018-type prices now. And so it’s time for all suppliers to come out with very mean looking fixed price deals. Very mean. I still won’t be fixing yet…. |

Fuel oil appears to be dropping in price. I got quoted 68p a litre at the weekend, of course seasonal changes will mean further drops.

For individuals, that is good, but for the planet, somehow we need to see electricity being priced in a way that gas and oil look unattractive compared to electricity.

Electric is an uneconomical option for me, sadly. The [electric] Aga is too expensive to run and the [electric] underfloor heating uses a ridiculous amount of energy. Seeing that we don't have a gas supply, I can't see things changing.

Electric heating options like heat pumps either to heat water or direct air heating can be very efficient and comparable to gas or oil pricing to run, esp if you have solar and a home battery. However, that's quite a lot of capital outlay, which is all part of what the gov't need to tackle. (This obv overlaps with other thread, but think it's relevant in terms of bills too.) ![]() |

Yep. Our solar setup, aircon system (air to air ashp) and the premium of an EV rather than an ICE amounts to about £27k investment. We are however saving between £200 and £250 per month so a decent pay back time. But the initial outlay is beyond most (my pension 25% tax free lump sum provided for us)
