We had someone lined up to put cavity insulation in quite a few years ago and I am pretty sure it was either free or heavily subsidised. However a relative who has a job that should have a good knowledge of such matters advised us against getting the cavity wall insulation as it might create other issues.
In recent times we have learned we should have no reason to believe anything that person says and so I am not sure if that was good or bad advice.

Doesn’t it cause issues with damp?

Baz - a decent cavity wall insulation company shouldn't missell you and should give you fair advice on whether or not it is suitable.
Similarly an independent assessor, one who's not getting a commission from a company or sector should certainly give you decent advice.
Badly and incorrectly installed cavity wall insulation did cause issues, mainly damp, but some of that has been solved is my understanding.
There are some homes in some exposed positions, particularly if you live on the west coast for whom driving rain from certain directions can cause issues leading to damp. But again, any decent company should advise you if this.
There are some websites that will also let you know whether this could be an issue for you.
Afraid I don't have the link but I looked it up when I was investigating my cavity wall insulation.
I may yet still get mine redone. Maybe.

Bazo, HES will advise if cavity wall insulation is a possible solution for you and also gives links to approved installers (approved because they'll give you grants or loans if you want to do it but only if you use suppliers off their list). G

Yeah, damp was one of the issues and also the fact that sometimes the insulation can settle in places and leave gaps in others.
Fozzy, what do you mean by having cavity wall insulation redone - is there a problem with the original and what does redone mean, do they have to remove the first round and do it again ?
Our roof is another issue as there is no loft space and so either we take the roof or the ceiling off to instal insulation. Sounds costly either way.

Baz - my insulation is old, meaning it's not the most insulating possible and I'm not certain it's got complete coverage.
But I have no actual issues from the insulation as it stands.
Tbh, I'm likely to try and put in underfloor insulation first.

In terms of having it redone, I mean having the insulation in there vacuumed out and the new stuff put in.

Underfloor could do but the installer needs to be quite small and agile as there ain’t much room underneath.

Heated throws offer you their protection. I had mine on setting 4 last night and I started to sweat a bit!

We got a dehumidifier as well. It was 80 sovs from Currys and it just chugs away. Damp rooms always feel colder according to Science.
