Unless you are going very slowly, there will be enough noise off the tyres to be heard. Remember, how it sounds to you inside the car is not how it sounds to someone outside of it.

If we go down the road of saying that one of the major stressors in, especially, urban environments is noise, and one of the major sources of noise is cars, then we don't want to be making somewhat quieter cars artificially noisier.

Yes, I agree with Dvorak there. I run mostly without headphones but I'm switched on to watch BEVs as I'm running and it's noticeable that BEVs are just about as noisy as most modern ICE cars from the point of view of a pedestrian / runner.

The only time the quiet is an issue is in car parks where I've noticed pedestrians are much less aware if I'm reversing.

Out of curiousity are there any hire electric vehicles. I hired a car in Korea which turned out to be LPG - had some sort of tank in the boot. Bit odd, and used up a lot of storage space

TMW - a quick Google shows Enterprise have Teslas for example..also the rent bythe hour are Club too.

Well tried the Charge Your Car charger point today. Not sure why but took half a dozen goes to connect. Does car have to be locked? Surely if charging for an hour you might want to be in it snoozing or listening to radio etc? Anyway, charged 40 or 50 miles worth in 20 mins. That would do in an emergency. :-) G

Mm, again we have the point that if I wanted to put 50 miles worth of petrol in, it would take me two minutes and I wouldn't need six goes to get the nozzle in.

Not quite what TMW was asking, but if you holiday in the Hochschwarzwald (something I'd definitely recommend), you can hire a BMW i3 for €6.90 an hour, or €49 a day.

Even better, with a guest benefit card from certain accommodations, you get three hours a day free! Kuckkuck! hochschwarzwald.de

The flip side Dvorak is that if you get home with fumes in your tank but plug in overnight a magic fuel fairy fills your tank which doesn't happen with petrol etc

No doubt though the charging network needs some work to increase the usability and reliability.

Have you seen Ozzy Man narrating a Tesla driver at a petrol station? It's hilarious.

Not sure how to link videos, but search "ozzy man reviews tesla fail"
