You can do "granny charging" at home on just a normal 3 pin home socket @Gromit ? If you have plenty of time, it's the cheapest. But if you just want to practice fast charging, then bays being used/abused, chargers being broken, not connecting properly etc. is "normal" experience - sorry! ![]() ![]() |

So, I’m just beginning to look for my first EV. One potential disadvantage is I live in an area where it’s impossible to get a working smart meter. Has anyone suggestions or experience with other ways of accessing the cheaper electricity rates ? |

How do you know it's impossible to get s smart meter? New generation can use both mobile AND radio networks. Work in v remote locations. But with no smart meter I don't think you cave tome variable tariffs. And I don't think they put in the old Economy meters any more? So, sorry, don't know. ![]() |

There’s a massive problem in rural north England with the radio network units… but I didn’t know there were meters that could use both mobile and radio. I spoke to our energy company today .. and was told ‘ we know your meters don’t work and this can’t be fixed’ That’s Scottish Power Hmmm maybe I need to look at other suppliers? |

Afternoon all. I'm back in the market for an EV, four years since I last had a look and couldn't justify the expense for my needs. In the end, I plumped for a cheap(ish), small(ish) used petrol C3 that worked perfectly well for the 6k miles a year I did in it. I've driven an ID.3 and a Megane and liked both, but they are still very pricey - even on a salary sacrifice scheme Mrs tOR's company operates. I've been quite impressed with MGs in the past - and the price point is a definite attraction, nearly new (or possibly brand new, looking at the January sales MG garages seem to have on). I'm going to drive an MG4 tomorrow, then I have a decision to make. From my lurking here over the past three or four years, it seems that you like yours, @larkim. Is there anything I should be looking out for? Anything that is especially good or especially bad about the MG4? |

Yeah, Larkim is your MG4 expert Richard. Are you only looking at new? Because of the much publicised drop in second hand prices, 2 and 3 year old EVs are pretty much parity with ICE equivalents and looking very good value, to my view? All the best, ![]() |

I've got an MG4 as well, albeit only for the past 10 months or so. Standard range, unlike Larks' long range one. I'm absolutely sold on mine. It's a little bit lacking in the bells and whistles of a more expensive car, but it's a sound car, with decent range. |

I'd happily buy another one, although my daughter would love me to get one of these instead. jeep.co.uk

Nope, nothing bad to say about it. There are minor quibbles that bother some owners more than me (e.g. lane keeping) but it's been reliable, pleasant to drive, efficient, no issues with warranty (had a headlamp unit fail). I've got the bottom spec model too; so I don't have rear speakers, no parking cameras and the boot level is slightly different. But none of those things bother me. |

Thanks both. I'm not dead set on new - the attraction of the the used C3 was that I was sharing the manufacturing carbon footprint with the previous owner. But the price of the LR Trophy I'm going to see tomorrow is 'only' a few thousand more expensive than the nearly new ones I've seen, so I'm keeping an open mind. I'm fortunate enough that I can afford the extra (or the extra for the VW or Renault SalSac scheme) I'm just an A-to-B car sort of person (up to a point) so I'd rather not splash out if I don't need to. |
