OH still doesn’t have a date to collect his car. He is not unduly concerned as he would have to travel to Inverness to collect it. The snow can do one first

I was looking at second hands again. They have really come down: Hyundai Kona or Kia Nero, 280 mile range, 2-3 years old, 20K miles, £15-16K.
Very usable family cars with all the toys (satnav, heated seats, reversing camera etc), nearly new, low mileage, almost free to run. That must be comparable or almost parity with ICE surely?
Happy New Electric Year everyone! G

After running the gauntlet of range yesterday on a log trip, for some reason overnight the charge didn't start until 3am so I only had 29%/58 miles of range for my 46 mile round trip commute this morning, which I'm arriving at work had the range indicator showing 29 miles left, probably because the range estimate didn't take account of my need for heat this morning after 3in of snow needed shifting from the car before I left.
Will probably leave the smallest amount of charge I've ever had in the car when I get home tonight. Fingers crossed the charging works ok tonight!

I have charged at not-off-peak before to avoid above scenario larks, with justification that it's still cheaper than public charging (and cheaper than petrol/diesel, of course). To avoid the ol half a tank or quarter of a tank scenario. G

If needs must I will do tomorrow, but for today I'm happy enough to leave as is. I've got access to another vehicle if there is a family emergency etc, but when I discovered the limited range I only had about 20 minutes before I needed to leave for work anyway so there wasn't much point firing up the "expensive" electricity at that point! If I get stuck on the way home I know where there are a couple of rapids that I can get to easily.

Hyundai on my radar. Musk is just so repellent.

:-)G if you buy 2nd hand from a dealer, do they provide a battery health report as standard, or would they charge you extra for that, or would you have to get it done independantly ?

Good question Gus. I don't know. I've never bought second hand yet! It would be the *key* health check for an electric car, but don't even know how reliable any such report would be. It's not as if it's a "standard" thing yet?
I think I'd just take my chance, perhaps reading general reviews about different manufacturers battery degradation. G

I'll let you know on Friday the volvo is getting a service before i collect it so i would expect it might get reported as part of that ? although i'm not 100% if its getting serviced this week before i collect or it will be serviced when its due in 5,000 miles - it was part of my haggling over the price - so i negotiated the service as part of the deal..

SOH has been reported on both the services I've had on my MG5 - in both cases as 100% so hopefully that's genuine and not a default!
