Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

We looked at the Buzz a little while ago and I had a little drive in one and loved it … it’s a step up to the seats however which in the end was a bit of a deal breaker with elderly parents etc… I know we could have got a step but still risk of falls etc .. I’ve read of a few folks having the infotainment screen issues but I’ll take the view that it will be under warranty if any issues develop 🤷‍♀️ x

Apologies for the prob dumb question … so I’m now looking at places we regularly go on holiday such as Keswick …. We’d probably charge using a granny charger at a holiday cottage however when I’m looking at the zatmap app at the public charging points there are some big difference in the price unit being charged … am I missing something or simply park slightly further out of town and charge at 40p rather than centre of town where it’s 85p 🤷‍♀️

Massive variation in per kWh charges Gromit. No reason not to use cheaper ones! They all put the same electricity in! :-) G

I wondered if the pricing related to speed or anything that I hadn’t considered 🤷‍♀️

Speed yes, faster chargers tend to cost more. Also convenient location. But of you ha e time and flexibility on location better deals avail. :-) G

Not foolproof but general rule of thumb - if it's 40p then it'll be a 7kW charger, if it's 80p it'll be a 50+kW charger.

Oh, this is the only other "spec" that I would check on my next purchase, max charging speed. Mine won't do 100kW. Think max is 70 or 80. Having watched a Polestar charging twice as fast at 150kW at a motorway service station charger, I felt quite diddled! :-) G

Yep - mine rarely does more then 50kW and has max of about 80kW. However I rarely use public chargers and when I do we've normally got the dogs with us, so taking it from 20% to 80% SOC takes about 40 minutes ehich works either a coffee/loo stop and walking the dogs

That's another point- on calculating distance between stops on long journeys note that on rapid chargers (>£50kW) charging slows dramatically above 80% SOC in order to protect the battery- I always unplug at 80-85%

Yes, I reckon once it's "fast enough" to do 20-80 in a reasonable time there is minimal benefit from super-fast charging. Of course if you're driving huge distances on a tight schedule the balance might shift a bit. And of course faster chargers can handle a greater throughput of vehicles.

I do wonder at the infrastructure underlying all this. How does a bank of 150kW chargers gets its juice? Must be a pretty big cable!
