I ended up getting a Zappi home charger (7kW untethered) on the advice of an electrician friend in my old running club who used to install EV chargers.

I got three quotes through Zappi's website which passes details to installers in your area. Zappi are mid range chargers, they can work with solar panels and their app seems quite stable.

I nearly went through Bumblebee EV who are Glasgow based. They are highly rated on plenty of Facebook groups where people ask for similar advice, they did seem to know their stuff when I chatted to them. There were always discount codes floating around FB to knock about £30 off their quote.

Thanks fuzzyduck. Will definitely look at those. I think we might have some difficulty (and extra cost) because our garage is at the other end of the garden from the house so might need extra cabling and is beyond the range of our WiFi :(

The BP Chargemaster that we've got doesn't need WiFi, it uses a SIM card to be online as necessary. Longer cables do cost a bit more though.

Mine cost 850 - the 600 you claim back as shanks described. So £250 for me to pay. With no cable but I just use one that car came with. 5 or 6m - works fine. Yes 7kw is max that a domestic can do, so 74kWh takes 9 hours.

Haven't tried charging on a proper long journey yet. Mine claims it can do 150kW so 10% to 80% should takes less than 30 mins. Even 100kW should take about 45 mins. :-) G

Oh and my home is EO Mini 2 - took about 3 hours to jnstall and power was off ar house for less than 1 hour.

The app allows programmable charging times, detects solar if you've got it and allows you to start and stop charging (assuming you plugged it in!) Can't think what other features you'd need. :-) G

I have seen some home chargers advertised with a 22kW rating, but car would have to be able to handle that on AC, and not sure if many do.

You can only do more than 7kW at home if you have a 3 phase power connection, like factories have. Can cost £2k to £10k or more for the power company to install - has to be the grid company, not just your electricity billing company. :-) G

Thanks HappyG. I'm thinking seriously about the Octavia 'proper' hybrid. The mild hybrid as previously discussed is a waste of time.

Unless I regularly hire another car (ICE) a full electric is too restrictive.
